New lens
material offers hope of better comfort.
We contacted
David Thomas, who is the sole manufacturer and distributor of Rose
K lenses under license to Rose K International in the UK. They are
using a new lens material called Comfort O2.
David Thomas
told us that the Comfort O2 material is the worlds first rigid silicone-
hydrogel. They believe it is a significant advance in the development
of material technology for RGP lenses.
This material
already has FDA approval. They have received very positive feedback
about comfort levels and extended wearing times from the contact
lens laboratories in the United States.
They launched
Comfort O2 at the beginning of 2005, although they had a limited
prelaunch in December. They are also starting to receive very positive
reactions from Patients and Practitioners. Some of their customers
are starting to order Comfort O2 in the Rose K2 design but it is
still early days and the feedback has not yet started to filter
back on Keratoconus Patients reaction to this material. Given its
expected advantages, they anticipate producing many Rose K lenses
in this material as Practitioners discover its benefits.
A download brochure
in pdf format, giving full details of Comfort O2 material, is available
on our website. It can also be accessed by following the links from
the Comfort O2 page. You can load their web page from www.davidthomas.com
to find the information.
They hope to
have the clinical study results and lots of patient feedback by
the Spring of 2005. We will continue to keep you posted on the latest
developments.
