Causes of Keratoconus

The cause of Keratoconus is not known, Keratoconus can run in families, giving the suggestion of a genetic link. However there are also people with Keratoconus who have no family history of the disease. Allergies and eye rubbing are other factors often associated with Keratoconus. People with Keratoconus are recommended to refrain from eye rubbing. A high number of people with Keratoconus suffer with allergies giving the suggestion that there maybe a link between allergies and Keratoconus.
